How To Clean Your Makeup Tools

To start things off, a massive sorry for not being very consistent with blog posts this month. I've really tried to write, but there's this common thing that annoys me greatly, yeah it's writers block. Also a lot of school work and tests have been keeping me busy lately. If anything I know what my New Years resolution is going to be.

So today's blog post is all about caring for your makeup tools. Here's how to clean them!

Makeup brushes
1) Rinse. You want to rinse the bristles of the brush in a downwards motion making sure you don't get water into the base of your brush as this can weaken the glue and in time break your brush.
2) Cleanse. Work a small amount of gentle shampoo or your daily facial wash into the bristles. Once soapy, rinse and repeat until the water runs clear.
3) Soak. Take a small, clean empty bowl or cup, fill it with warm water and add a small amount of your daily facial wash. Leave you brushes in the bowl to soak for however long is needed. Again try to avoid the base of the brush.
4) Dry. Reshape the bristles and lay on a clean towel overnight to dry. A makeup brush shaper could also be used in this step to keep the brushes bristles in the shape that you want.
5) Repeat. Repeat steps 1-4 once a week. Or like me, you could do only step 3 everyday to clean your makeup tools after use to keep the germ away and off your skin.

Makeup sponges
1) Wet. Run the spoungebob under warm water.
2) Lather. Using a small amount of gentle shampoo or your daily facial wash, lather it onto the spoungebob and work any remaining product out of the sponge with your finger tips.
3) Rinse. Rinse the spoungebob until the water runs clear.
4) Dry. Squeeze out the remaining water drops and then pat dry with a clean towel. You could allow the sponge to air dry by leaving it on a clean towel all night, or if you prefer you could use your sponge damp, still does the job right?
5) Repeat. Your makeup sponges should be cleaned after every few uses or once there is no longer a clean unused surface left. I suggest rinsing your sponge with warm water after every use to avoid germ spread and to keep your sponge in a good condition. Also the soak step from that I mentioned in the cleaning of the makeup brushed could also be helpful if your have multiple sponges, just remember to rinse them after their soak.

I hope this post helped. Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions on other topics I could cover, it's so much fun to hear your opinions.

When was the last time you cleaned your makeup tools?
